Photograph of Mertie West walking along an observation deck atop the Empire State Building in New York. The open-air observation deck enters frame from the bottom edge at left and stretches straight back. Mertie West, left-of-center, walks along the balcony and towards the camera in the near distance. In front and to the left of her, another visitor stands in partial view along the left edge with his back to the camera. At right, a short set of steps enters frame from the bottom edge and ascends to an open doorway. Beyond the doorway is an enclosed viewing area. The indoor viewing area lines the right edge of the exterior observation area. Several windows sit in a row along the exterior wall of the building.
