An out-of-focus photograph of Mertie West posing beside the equestrian statue of Theodore Roosevelt outside the east entrance to the American Museum of Natural History. Steps leading up to the front porch of the museum enter frame from the bottom edge at left and stretch back towards center. At the end of the steps, the bronze statue of Theodore Roosevelt stands atop a plinth. The figure of Theodore Roosevelt sits atop a horse. They are viewed from the side and face right. On the near side of the statue, a Native American figure in headdress walks alongside the Roosevelt figure and horse. Below the sculpture, Mertie West stands near the back end of the statue's base and looks to the camera. To the left of Mertie and the statue, the museum's side porch stretches towards the building's facade at left. It is mostly obscured by shadow as it stretches back along the left edge. To the right, pedestrians walk along the sidewalk lining Central Park West. Central Park West enters frame from the lower right edge and extends back slightly towards center. On the far right side of Central Park West, trees line the edge of Central Park. The Beresford apartment building rises in the background at center. Four punched holes line the top edge at left.
