- Photograph of Mertie West standing behind a parapet and looking out towards Horseshoe Falls (or Canadian Falls) at Niagara Falls. The scene is viewed from an elevated perspective. Mertie West stands, left-of-center, on the near side of a parapet and with her back to camera. The parapet stretches across the image, in front of Mertie. In the distance and at a lower elevation, the Niagara River (right) cascades over Horseshoe Falls, left-of-center. Mist from the falls rises up from the basin. On the far side of the falls and beyond the mist, at left, Niagara Falls, New York is visible.
