- Photograph of Mertie West posing beside an old Death Valley Express wagon in Death Valley National Park. Mertie West stands in the foreground at far left. She looks to the camera as she stands in front of a large wagon. The large wagon stands behind her, off-center to the left. It is viewed from the side. The wagon driver's seat is elevated above and directly behind Mertie. The rest of the wagon extends to the right. Along the side of the wagon, it reads, "DEATH VALLEY EXP[RE]S[S]." A dirt road stretches across the image, directly behind the wagon. Trees line a cross street that stretches back into the image at far right.
