Description

An out-of-focus photograph of J. E. Smith standing on the front walkway outside his home on South Eastlake Avenue. J. E. Smith stand at center on the concrete walkway that cuts through the lawn in front of his home. He stands with his hands behind his back as he looks and faces slightly towards the right. The walkway stretches on an upward angle beneath him from the lower left corner to the right. His front lawn extends behind and to the left of him. A short palm tree stands at the edge of the yard at left, abutting his neighbor's fence. The sidewalk and South Eastlake Avenue pass through the image at right on an upward angle from right to left, running perpendicular to the walkway. A large tree stands along the near side of South Eastlake Avenue behind and to the right of J. E. Directly behind J. E., a meat market stands on the northeast corner of the intersection of South Eastlake and Darwin Avenues. Neighboring houses are visible lining both streets in the background at right.

Los Angeles from about 1895 to 1907,as file and copy clerk. Went to Mexico with S.P.R.R. of Mexico. Retired and living at above address. 2. Same. 3. J.E.Smith right and his brother in law Crowell, who married one of the Smith girls. He was in the baggage room of the S.P.R.R. at the old Arcade depot, Los Angeles, for years.
