- Description
- Photograph of 8 servicemen standing in front of the quarters of H. H. West, Jr. while stationed at Dutch Harbor during World War II. A walkway of wooden slats enters frame at left and stretches through the center of the image on an upward angle towards the right. It then extends back to the left towards the front door of the Quonset hut-style barracks. Eight servicemen stand on the steps and walkway leading up to barrack's door. A man stands on the walkway at center. To the right of him, another man crouches down on the walkway. Behind both of them and to the right, 3 men stand in a row on a landing. On the topmost step in front of the door and to the left of everyone else, 3 more men stand. All look to the camera. The front of the barracks stands behind them to the left. It is viewed at an angle from the front and the side; it faces right. Snow-covered mountains rise in the distance at center and right.
