- Photograph of a companion of H. H. West, Jr. standing on a patch of snow and posing with a rifle outside the barracks while stationed at Dutch Harbor during World War II. The young man stands at center. He is dressed in his military uniform and holds his rifle upright at his side as he looks to the camera. He stands on a patch of snow that covers the ground around him and extends back into the image. Behind and to the right of the serviceman, the side of a Quonset hut stretches across the image. It enters frame at right. It is constructed of corrugated sheet metal and has an arced roof. A low hill covered in patches of snow stands in the distance at left.
