Caption: Text from negative sleeve: 1955. Los Angeles, California. Poplar Street and San Fernando Road. July 16, 1939. One morning about 4 a.m. H. H. West Jr. telephoned me that he had had an accident with my car. He had borrowed it to take one of his Glendale girls out to the Pasadena Civic Auditorium to a dance. He was coming toward Los Angeles from Glendale some time after midnight and tried to pass a truck. It crowded him over the center of the road, and an approaching car caused him to try to duck up to his left on a side street, which was Poplar Street, and on the corner was an auto court -- Wolfe's Auto Court. He could not make the turn up Poplar Street, but ran over the fire plug at the corner and up into the auto court grounds. Broke the fire plug off at the walk level. Department of Water and Power charged us some $35.00 for a new hydrant and after it was installed I went out and took these three films of the location. Car had bent front axle and broken lamp. 3 films.
