Photograph of Henry E. Huntington stepping away from his carriage as he arrives at the Van Nuys Hotel (now The Barclay). Henry E. Huntington stands in the near distance, left-of-center. He appears to face towards the camera, but gazes slightly towards the right. To the right of him, a horse-drawn carriage sits in the street. It is viewed at an angle from the side, facing towards the right. A carriage driver sits atop the carriage and the horse pulling the carriage is in partial view along the right edge of the image. In the foreground at left, a horse's head juts into frame. In the background, a couple three-story buildings line the far side of the street at center. Spectators stand on a rooftop at far right. Additional carriages travel along the street behind Henry Huntington.

Text from negative sleeve: 1731. Los Angeles, California, about 1900. Main Street, Van Nuys Hotel. 1. Henry E. Huntington, Vice President of Southern Pacific getting out of a cab in front of the Van Nuys Hotel at the corner of Main and Fourth street. He had come to Los Angeles to see E.H.Harriman about the Los Angeles Railway and P.E.Railway affairs in Southern California. This may have been about 1904, as I think it was when Theodore Roosevelt visited Los Angeles, and I was on Main Street across the street from the Westminster Hotel where Roosevelt was to stay while here, and the Van Nuys Hotel was across the street from the Westminster giving me an unexpected opportunity for this picture. 1 film
