The horse stands at center and turns its head away from the camera. Both H. H., Jr. and the other boy sit on horseback and turn to look to the camera. The larger boy sits in front and holds the horse's reins. H. H. West, Jr. sits behind him. A dirt path spans across the image beneath them. Trees and brush line the path and occupy the background.
