Text from negative sleeve: 767. East. 1900. Red Oak, Iowa. Dr Frank Miller, wife and two children at his home on the east hill. Frank and I were great chums in our youth. His folks brought him to California one winter when about 9 years old, and he wrote me a letter from Los Angeles, sending some pepper leaves, and dried sea moss. The "Ole Swimmin' hole." On the Nishnabotany [sic], just below (south) of the old White Bridge west of town. Wagons and buggies crossing the bridge could see us swimming off the sand bar shown at the left. The sand bars were lined with trees when we used the place to swim and we had plenty shade and hiding place for our clothes. Just around the bend below these sand bars, George Crozier pulled me out when I was going down for the third time in a hole over my head. I could not swim. 2 negatives.
