Description

Charlie Stavnow poses for a photograph with about a score of dead ducks killed on a shoot. He stands at center with ducks slung around his neck, hanging from both hands and with several ducks laid on the ground in front of him. He wears boots, a jacket and a small hat. He casts a shadow horizontally towards the left. Just behind him, two chickens stand in the grass near a shadow that enters the image from the right. In the far distance, a picket-fenced enclosure stands at the right.

Text from negative sleeve: 304. Cazadores Gun Club. About 1912. Charles Stavnow. Is still running a furniture store at 1315 West Seventh Street, Los Angeles. 1942. Charlie took me as his guest to the Cazadores Gun Club along in January or February of 1908, which was my first shoot on a gun club. Charlie told me that Henry Krohn, a real estate man, of the firm Cornish (Herb Cornish) and Krohn had a share, and never shot and if I would like to join the Cazadores Gun Club, to see Krohn. I saw Krohn, and he said he wanted $650.00 for his share. I gave him a check for $250.00 and note for balance. Krohn did not know me, but Herb Cornish and I used to run around together with the same girls when boys in East Los Angeles. Krohn wanted to know who would endorse my not. (over)
