This is a photograph taken of Alanson Bigelow Houghton, arriving in Los Angeles from Honolulu on board the Matson liner Lurline, when he was the president of Corning Glass Works. He is famous for being the first American ambassador to Germany. He served in Germany from 1922-1925, following which he was posted to Great Britain, where he retired after three years.
