This is a portrait photograph of J. R. Hitchcock, newly appointed General Manager of the Santa Fe Coast Lines, probably in his new office in the Kerckhoff Building on the northeast corner of Sixth and Main Streets. He appears to be signing some papers. His desk is strewn with papers and letters as well as a map at the bottom left of the image.
