Assistant superintendent of Los Angeles city schools died at age 68 from an attack of heart disease he suffered while watching the USC-Stanford football game at the Memorial Coliseum.
Photograph appears with the article, "School Official Dies While at Football Game," Los Angeles Times, 10 Nov 1935: 14.
A photograph of a portrait picture of Mr. Shafer taken at an undisclosed time and place with the background behind his head and his hair drawn over to highlight. Thick white lines are drawn around his head to form a rectangle and the caption from the newspaper bearing his name is attached under his neck.
