A whaleboat operated by junior officers takes Admiral Chase away from the dreadnought Texas to the waiting destroyer Lea for his voyage to San Diego, where he will enjoy a three-week vacation with his family.
Admiral Frank H. Schofield became commander-in-chief of the United States Fleet, succeeding Admiral Jehu V. Chase on a ceremony aboard the dreadnought Texas, just off the coast of Los Angeles Harbor.
