Commander Richard Byrd stands on a dock, off-center to the left. He faces slightly right and appears to converse with the unidentified man standing to the right of him. This man stands in profile, facing left. Another man stands in partial view along the left edge and faces towards Commander Byrd and the man at right. In front and to the left of Commander Byrd, his dog, Igloo, stands. Behind the men, a hose winds across the dock and slightly farther back, the hull of the C. A. Larsen extends across the background. Streamers are visible on the dock and on the men.
