Commander Richard E. Byrd poses with his crew on the upper deck of the C. A. Larsen while moored in Los Angeles Harbor. The group poses at center and is split into 2 rows. Kneeling in the front row, from left to right, are, Charles Lufgren, Martin Ronne, Sergeant Rother and K. F. Bubier. Standing across the back row, from left to right, are: Lieutenant Shropshire, J. de Cecca, Russell Owen, Alton Parker, E. J. Demas, Richard J. Brophy, Commander Richard E. Byrd, Willard Van der Veer, Bernt Balchen and Harold June. A camera and tripod stands between Commander Byrd and Willard Van der Veer. Text from accompanying press release: Watch your credit _________"P & A Photos" LA 15317---------(Los Angeles Bureau) Byrd Expedition Leaves. Commander Richard Byrd and his party left Los Angeles Harbor today (Oct. 10th) on the C. A. Larsen on the first lap of a trip that proposes exploration of undiscovered land in the Antarctic. The Larsen is bound for Dunedin, New Zealand, where Byrd will be reunited with other members of his expedition who sailed from the eastern seaboard.
