Description

Commander Richard Byrd walks through a crowd while aboard his ship, the whaler, C. A. Larsen. The crowd is viewed close-up and stretches across the foreground. It continues to arc back to the left. At center, Commander Byrd stands towards the back of the crowd. He dons his sailor's hat and looks steadfastly to the right. Fellow officers stand behind and to the right of Commander Byrd and the crowd. Masts, rigging and funnels on the C. A. Larsen occupy the background.
