The camera pans up towards the rear of a train car where Commander Richard Byrd and his fellow expedition members stand upon arrival in Los Angeles. The back of the train car occupies the majority of the image. Affixed to the front of the guardrail is a sign that reads, "GOLD COAST LIMITED." Behind the guardrail, the men stand in a row. From left to right, they are: George O. Noville, Alton Parker, Commander Byrd, Russell Owen, Richard Brophy and Charles Lofgren. Commander Byrd stands farthest back at center and in uniform; he faces towards the camera. He appears to speak to Russell Owen, who stands to the right of him. In front of both Commander Byrd and Owen, Alton Parker (left) and Richard Brophy (right) stand, facing one another and shaking hands. At far left, George O. Noville stands, facing right, and at far right, Charles Lofgren stands, facing left. In front of the men, Commander Byrd's dog, Igloo, sits perched on the railroad car's guardrail.
