Left to right: Portrait photograph of Harold C. McGugin, Anna Laura Lowe Barnett, and Jackson Barnett. McGugin wears a coat, hat, and bowtie, and carries his gloves in his right hand. Anna Barnett is wearing a fox fur stole, hat, gloves and cloak. Jackson Barnett wears a fur collared coat and hat.
Jackson Barnett was a multi-millionaire, and the richest Native American at the time. He was deemed mentally incompetent and his marriage to Anna Laura Lowe was nullified. McGugin and Anna Laura Barnett were charged with kidnapping and conspiracy to steal Jackson Barnett's money. McGugin was a lawyer from Coffeyville, Kansas. Anna Barnett continued to fight her case until her death.
