Caption reads: Replace the Old Walls. Equipment of builders of today in great contrast to that used by the early fathers who constructed the fine old edifice in 1786.
Santa Barbara Mission, facade, under restoration following 1925 earthquake, covered in scaffolding and ladders, with construction debris in foreground, eucaplyptus tree at left. The towers, which had fallen during the earthquake, were rebuilt.
