- This is a picture taken at the historic El Mirador Hotel in Palm Springs, regarded one of the finest luxury hotels of its time. This is a picture of guests diving into its famous Olympic-size swimming pool that had five diving boards, an underwater window on the pool for use by photographers, and a pool observation platform. In the background, we can see the most defining feature of the hotel, a pink Byzantine tower from which the hotel took its name — El Mirador — meaning "The Lookout."
