The image dates from 1934, the year the breakwater off Santa Monica pier was complete, to 1945, after which the rustic branch fence of Palisades Park was replaced (with a pre-cast concrete fence with criss-cross design and a wood rail fence).
View from Palisades park towards (L to R) the California Incline, the Pacific Coast Highway, beach houses and Santa Monica Beach, with the pier and breakwater visible in the far distance. The beach houses from the foreground to the upper middle ground correspond to the Pacific Coast Highway addresses 938 - 1166. The building in the background with the arched windows has a sign reading "Club Miramar."
