- Description
-
One of a series of photographs labeled 2890 P 1-5. All were shot from the same cliff toward the lighthouse building. Images labeled “2890 P 1-3” look to be from the 1930s. The building displays minimal signage and 1930s era automobiles are in view. Images labeled “2890 P 4-5” include 1940s era cars, while the building itself has accumulated more signage and is most similar to an additional photograph (No. 2902) of Caroline Bartlett taken at the same location, dated 1946.
Photograph view facing north toward the Santa Monica Bay and lighthouse building on Will Rogers State Beach, taken atop a Palisades cliff. A portion of Pacific Coast Highway is seen bottom left; a cactus grows with shrubbery on the cliffs at right.
The lighthouse building was purchased by Will Rogers in 1928 and eventually demolished in 1978. It was not a functioning lighthouse. Co-ordinates derived from original lighthouse location.
