“Rigoletto” was performed twice at John Adams Auditorium during the company’s 8th season: September 22 and October 27, 1951
Ballet dancers and opera singers on stage in Act 1, Scene 1 of “Rigoletto.” Here, ballet dancers in 16th century dress perform as Santa Monica Civic Opera singers amass in groups and watch. The stage set represents a room in the Duke’s palace complete with a throne (an ornate wooden chair covered with a canopy, placed on an elevated platform). The walls are built with faux columns and crests mounted on them. Additionally, cast members dressed as guards stand holding halberds (battle axes). A chandelier hangs above the stage at center. Musicians are viewed in the orchestra pit at foreground. Opera performed at John Adams Auditorium.
