Photograph of a framed painting of Ruth Sr. Denis depicted wearing a sari and choli (short blouse). She looks over one shoulder and holds a dish in one hand, the other hand is held up over head with the palm up. Painting signed, “Walter Barron Currier, California, 1912.”
Ruth St. Denis was a modern dancer who incorporated eastern dance into her work. Walter Barron Currier was a Massachusetts-born painter, craftsman, illustrator, print maker and etcher. He moved to the Los Angeles area in 1913. Currier was the head of Lincoln High School's art department, and established the Currier Creative Art School in Santa Monica in 1926.
