The National Music League began in 1924 as a not-for-profit bureau concerned with booking amateur classical musicians for concert work. The league was based in New York City. Article citation: Hunt, Morton B. "They Give the Kids a Chance." The Saturday Evening Post, May 10, 1952.
This image is a copy of two pages from the article “They Give the Kids a Chance,” by Morton B. Hunt, regarding the National Music League, Inc. The right-hand page recounts the story of Angeline Collins, a young singer who was not able to sign up with a large management agency because of her inexperience. Collins’ story continues on the second page. The story demonstrates how the league assisted the unknown musician with getting her first bookings. Photo at top: Pianist Lilian Kallir performing for an audience; bottom left: Anna “Mama” Molyneaux; top right: League musicians Karl Brock and Sylvia Rosenberg outside Carnegie Hall; bottom right: Opera star Ezio Pinza with Lilian Kallir and Helen Clayton.
