This image appears to be a rephotograph of Dr. Reed, made evident by the inscription "Underwood & Underwood, Studio N.Y." visible in the bottom right corner of the image.
Dr. Cass Arthur Reed was a graduate of Pomona College, and then later, Harvard, Columbia and the Union Theological Seminary. He earned degrees from all of these institutions. In 1912, he was appointed the Dean of the International College of Smyrna Turkey. He is referenced in numerous L.A. Times articles, including the Aug. 11, 1914 article "Pomona 'Grad' College Dean Home from Smyrna, Will Take Sports Leader with Him to Turkey".
