Text from newspaper caption: You'll Have to Admit This Is a Striking Picture And the gent doing the striking in the picture is none other than Gene Lillard, young Angel third-sacker, whose improved fielding and hitting is one of the many reasons why Jack Lelivelt's club is making a runaway affair of the Coast League race. Lillard was the Coast League home-run king with forty-three last season, but it looks as though he is going to lose his laurels to his team-mate, Frank Demaree, this year. Notice the muscles bulging in Gene's forearm as he goes for a long one. That's where he gets that tremendous power at the plate.
