Martin A. Leach was the president of the Leach Biltwell Motor Car Company and the head of the Pacific Southwest Loan and Mortgage Corporation and the National Loan Company. He was shot in his office by Louis Richert, one of his investors. He was previously arrested for fraud but the charges were dismissed, but then was later again arrested for fraud for selling worthless mortgage notes. He was convicted in 1933 and finally incarcerated in 1938 after hiding for five years.
