“Jack Gaines, ex-golf star, dies of tumor,” Los Angeles Times, 25 Jun. 1957: C6.
John S. “Jack” Gaines was an amateur golfing champion. He was State champion in 1928 and 1935, and Southern California champion in 1932 and 1937. He won the Bobby Jones tournament in 1935. He was also director of athletics at Glendale High School.
