Below the main plan is a "typical road cross section" with labels: walk, pavement, planting and a small legend drawing with labels: street, property line, alley and curb line.
Fred J. Smith came to Pomona in 1881 and was an important figure in the history of the development of water in the area. Smith bought the El Verde Ranch (site of this plan) and then combined with nearby landowners, J.B. Camp and Robert Catheart, to form the Citizen's Water company.
