Text from newspaper caption: John Gilbert's palatial residence sits atop a hill back of Beverly Hills and is one of well-hidden homes of stars rarely found by tourists. This view was taken from the cactus garden. The actor died in large bedroom at the rear of the house [Los Angeles Times, January 1910, 1936].
