- A BLACK 'POX' ON THE BEACH--Beachgoer Roslyn Leone, 20, a student, and lifeguard Lt. Tom Johnson inspect patches of oil that have washed ashore at Santa Monica. The patches, which have appeared on beaches as far south as Laguna Beach, apparently are from the leaking Santa Barbara well. Union Oil Co., although not admitting responsibility, sent a crew to begin clearing the Santa Monica strand.
