Text from negative sleeve: California Institute of Technology, groundbreaking
Typed note on negative: ground-breaking ceremonies at the California Institute of Technology yesterday for the $1,000,000 group of dormitories were featured by the use of a steam shovel, instead of the usual small spade, while an added appropriate touch was given by the punch, a synthetic concoction. Charles Dickerman is seen at controls of shovel. Sidney Zipser poises the bottle of punch (just before he dropped it) and Roscoe Downs poses in left foreground.
