James Beck, born in Kansas City, Kansas, was a soldier in the Spanish American war and he served in the tenth cavalry regiment under Theodore Roosevelt. The 10th Cavalry Regiment was one of the four all-black "buffalo soldier" regiments in the Army. He was also a soldier in World War I possibly 1917-1918.
