Born Emma Barrett, Emma is listed as a step daughter living at 1244 El Molino in the 1900 census. In the Los Angeles city directories of 1901 and 1903, she is listed as a laundress living at 1242 El Molino in Los Angeles (now 1242 Kenmore Ave.). She married Robert James Boyd, who owned a barber shop in Los Angeles and they had four children: Barrett, Willis, Helen and Edward. Her first child, Barrett, was born in 1904 or 1905. By 1917 the family was living in Riverside, and Emma and Robert were still there in 1947. - Caption
