Angelique Bratton was a Senior Secretary at the Division of Labor, where she worked for 30 years. She was an active civic leader in the Los Angeles community.
Juanita Ellsworth Miller was the Deputy Director of the Department of Social Welfare for the State of California, a chartered member of the Allied Arts League and a life member of the NAACP. She was married to judge Loren Miller.
Pauline Slater was a teacher and civic leader in Los Angeles. Born in Chicago, she earned her BA and MA degrees at Los Angeles State Normal and the University of Southern California, in Education. She then joined the Los Angeles School District in 1919 and taught at Lafayette and Foshay Junior High Schools. She was active in civic organizations and the recipient of numerous awards, including the Golden Apple Award on Teacher Remembrance Day (1964) and the Los Angeles Fellowship League Award.
Founded in 1939 by Dorothy Vena Johnson and Juanita Miller, the League of Allied Arts was established to promote and support the arts in Los Angeles. They provided cultural enrichment programs for the community, honored the creative accomplishments of black artists and awarded scholarships to talented students from Los Angeles who pursued scholarly studies in the arts.
