In a historical costume reenactment of a Gaspar de Portolá expedition, mounted Spaniards encounter North American Indian peoples outside of Los Angeles City Hall. Musicians and dancers are gathered in the background.
Gaspar de Portolá was appointed Governor of Las Californias from 1768-1770. During that time, he expelled the Jesuits from Baja California and led expeditions by land and sea to settle colonies on the California coast.
