"Given that many moderate and conservative Californians see Arnold Schwarzenegger's veto pen as all that protects them from the most far-left Legislature north of Caracas, it may be a surprise to learn that so far the governor's sign-to-veto ratio on bills sent his way is a stunning 19 to 1. As of yesterday afternoon, Schwarzenegger had given his official blessings to 379 measures while only rejecting 20. The governor seems to think California doesn't have enough laws already. "

Candidates debate immigration
2 from minor parties vying for governor

Two of the minor political party candidates for governor argued opposite poles of the immigration debate yesterday in a spirited but civil forum at San Diego City College.
Art Olivier, the Libertarian Party candidate, contended that people in the country illegally should be required to leave and that the state should spend no money on benefits for them.
“America is a nation of immigrants,” Olivier said, “but what we're getting into is a nation of illegal immigrants.”
Peter Camejo, the Green Party candidate, argued for an open-border policy. He maintained that immigrants make a major contribution to the American economy and should be welcomed into the country with the full rights and privileges of Americans.
“We don't have an immigration problem in the United States,” Camejo said. “That is a myth.”
Camejo denounced the proposed guest-worker program supported by President Bush and most congressional Democrats.
“There is an apartheid system being proposed by the Democrats, which they call guest-worker program where people will live under separate laws, have limited rights,” Camejo said. “It's like we don't want Mexicans, but they can work here.”
Olivier objected to the border security bill signed by President Bush yesterday, which includes money for 700 miles of new border fencing, as insufficient.
“Just 700 miles of fence, it will push them further out into the desert and make it more dangerous,” Olivier said.
The two-hour debate, sponsored by City College's Chicano Studies Department, played out before a sparse student crowd in the campus Saville Theater.
It was a pro-Camejo crowd that heckled Olivier when he condemned protesters hoisting Mexican flags as “completely racist.”
“These type of people, they want to be in Mexico. They should go back to Mexico because this is America,” Olivier said.
Students jeered, but were quieted by Camejo.
“Let's show respect for him as we want respect for ourselves, OK?” Camejo said. “He's being very honest about what he believes, and what he believes is a major part of America that we need to communicate with.”
Camejo and Olivier are two of the four minor-party candidates for governor on the Nov. 7 ballot. The others are Janice Gordon of the Peace and Freedom Party and Edward Noonan of the American Independent Party. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and state Treasurer Phil Angelides are the Republican and Democratic nominees, respectively.
Camejo, a 66-year-old Venezuelan-America, is founder and chairman of an asset management company that promotes “socially responsible investments.”
He was the Green Party nominee for governor in 2002 and received 5.3 percent of the vote. A year later he placed fourth in the gubernatorial recall election field with 2.9 percent of the vote. He was also the vice presidential nominee in 2004 on Ralph Nader's Green Party ticket.
Olivier, a 49-year-old engineer, is a former mayor of the southeast Los Angeles County city of Bellflower. He was the Libertarian Party candidate for vice president in 2000.

ANTI-ILLEGAL ALIEN COMMERCIAL LAUNCHES IN CALIFORNIA Ad Featuring Illegal Aliens Will Air Statewide
Los Angeles, CA – Art Olivier’s campaign for governor will release their first television advertisement this 2006 election year. The ad, which highlights the illegal alien marches, debuts this Friday in Bakersfield, Santa Rosa, and the Central Valley. The advertisement, which also presents a Mexican flag raised over an upside down American flag, will roll out in the Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Sacramento, Redding, Fresno, Palm Springs, San Diego, and Los Angeles markets beginning Monday October 9th.
Art Olivier, who began campaigning back in January, has virtually been unnoticed in the mainstream media. However talk radio has embraced Olivier and his concerns regarding our open borders and the illegal invasion.
Thanks to the generous donations from the listeners of talk radio, Olivier is now able to enter the television airwaves.
Although Art Olivier’s campaign contacted all the major participants and hosts of the October 7th Gubernatorial debate, Olivier was denied an invitation. Therefore the television ad titled “Elect Art” will offer voters an alternative position regarding illegal immigration which differs from the two main party candidates.
The advertisement will also be available for viewing at www.electart.com or at the following link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWTyRTetvRA.
