We are Doctors, Patients and Taxpayers for Fiscal Responsibility and we strongly support Stem Cell Research-with narrow exceptions-but we oppose this shameless attempt by a small group of venture capitalists and pharmaceutical company executives to have California taxpayers pay for their research and development costs.

Prop 71: Funding and Regulating Stem Cell Research

The supporters of Proposition 71 have collected more than $30 million while the opponents have raised just over $155,000. Most of the money has come from California (86 percent) and been supplied by individual donors (89 percent). A large percentage of the funds (88 percent) is from donors who contributed $100,000 or more.

In contrast, the opponents' largest contributions are two $50,000 donations made by Fieldstead and Company and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Proponents spent over $2.7 million circulating the petition to qualify the measure.
